At the start of each new school year, I usually like to begin with a unit on self-portraits. With so many students, it gives me a chance to get to know each little face in my classes. Here are the Year One students, only a couple of weeks into 'big school', and definitely showing artistic finesse!

The Year One's learn all about the proportions of the face |
Preparing the background with vibrant colours |
The students added patterns to their background with a variety of tools |
After the face was painted, they cut it out and glued it onto their patterned background |
